Answers:

When does the first pension check start after retirement?

Pension payments are made direct deposit, in a designated bank account. New pension payments generally begin the first of the month after you retire. Each subsequent payment will be deposited by the third work day of each month.

How does accumulated sick time benefit a retiree?

You will be credited with additional service credit at the time of retirement for any unused sick leave accumulation.

What happens to sick time if not used for early retirement?

Sick leave is automatically credited to your service credit at the time of retirement up to a total maximum of 30 years of service.

What happens to my retirement benefits if I should die? Are benefits available for a beneficiary? For how long?

Retirees under 8 years of service:

Your beneficiary/spouse would receive the same monthly amount for the remainder of the guaranteed 5-year period.

Retirees with 8 years or more of service credit:

Option 1: Spouse Benefit - Your legal spouse will receive up to 60% (depending on the spouse's age) of your monthly benefit for their life.

             -OR-

Option 2: Your beneficiary would receive your monthly amount for the remainder of the guaranteed 5-year period.

How do I apply for Retirement Benefits?

Contact the Human Resources department at 402-444-6099 to begin the process. A minimum of thirty (30) day notice is required in order to prepare the appropriate forms and necessary paperwork for your completion. 

Copies of documentation to prove your age, spouses age (if applicable) and legal marriage (if applicable) are required. 

Monthly benefit calculations are completed and reviewed by the Pension Chair. An estimate will be provided upon request.
